The Love Dare Book.
Have you heard of it? If not, it's based off of the movie Fireproof. The book is a dare or a challenge. It's something that one spouse does without the other knowing.
Here is what the first page says:
"Receive this as a warning. This forty day journey cannot be taken lightly.
It is a challenging and often difficult process, but an incredibly fulfilling one. To take this dare requires a resolute mind and a steadfast determination.
It is not meant to be sampled or briefly tested, and those who quite early will forfeit the greatest benefits. If you will commit to a day at a time for forty days, the results could change your life and your marriage.
Consider it a dare, from others who have done it before."
Boom!
Crazy huh?
This book helps you focus on YOUR actions and how you ACT and REACT to your husband. Because, lets be real, you cannot control what your husband does, you cannot change him yourself. You can only control your actions, words and thoughts. Why focus on how much HE has done wrong and start focusing on how you could do better.
This book is broken up into 40 days. With each day there is a reading, a dare and a space for reflection. This book is based off of the Bible and how God intends us to love our spouse.
An example of a topic is:
Day 11 Love Cherishes
bible verse: "Husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies" Eph 5:28
Dare: What need does your spouse have that you could meet today? Can you run an errand? Give a back rub or foot massage? Is there housework you could help with? Choose a gesture that says "I cherish you" and do it with a smile.
Reflection Questions: What did you choose to show that you cherish your mate? What did you learn from this experience?
That is one day, without the reading. Its a quick read and something that will keep you thinking of your spouse all day. This takes our minds off of "me, me, me" and onto our other half.
I would recommend this book if you need to change YOUR perspective. This book isn't about changing your spouse or helping him learn how to be better. This is about you and your heart. Obeying the commandment of loving others, and what a better way to start than at home, with your husband.
Have I done this book? No, I have gotten to day 3. I do want to commit to completing this book for my husband and marriage. It would do nothing but benefit us and our love tank!
